Ambialet

ambialet
Twenty kilometers to the east of Albi, nestled between the hills that enclose the Valley of the Tarn, the river turns back on itself in an unlikely hairpin. On the thusly created isthmus, probably the narrowest in Europe, Ambialet is built.

The site is dominated by Notre-Dame de l'Oder, a magnificent chapel prieury dating to the 11th century. Classed as an historic monument, the chapel possesses a much admired roman entryway wi a finely arched absidioles. Lower down the mountain are the ruins of the chateau et chapel of St. Gilles.

Leaving Ambialet toward the east, the valley of the Tarn becomes more abrupt. Lincou, Plaisance, Trébas-les-Bains, and Brousse-le-Chateau, are all wonderful sites, worth visiting.
